There are two differences between trading A shares through Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Connect and directly trading A shares through mainland brokers :0.002% transfer fee charged by the Hong Kong Clearing House ;
The 0.008% securities portfolio fee charged by the Hong Kong Clearing House (this item can be ignored, holding a stock with a market value of 100,000 Hong Kong dollars only charges a securities portfolio fee of 8 Hong Kong dollars a year)
What is the portfolio fee?
HKSCC provides depository and agent services on behalf of its Central Clearing System participants to hold Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Connect stocks, and charges a "securities portfolio fee" for this.
The securities portfolio fee is charged in Hong Kong dollars on a monthly basis based on a single combination of Shanghai Stock Connect and Shenzhen Stock Connect stocks of each CCASS participant.
